Internet Protocol Number; a 4-part number, separated by dots, which identifies a specific machine on the Internet. Every machine that is on the Internet has a unique IP number. Most machines also have one or more Domain Names that are easier for people to remember. They have to point to an IP# in order for that domain to access the server where the web content is located.
There are two different ways IP#s are assigned. Static and Dynamic. Static IP#s are ones that never change. Domain names are pointed to static IP#s. When you connect to the internet through a dial-up connection, then a different IP# will be asigned to you each time you connect. If you are on a dial-up modem, you can test this by reloading this page each time you dial in... Try it now!
This is the IP# where you are connected to now: IP# = 18.226.248.88
